Nea Erythrea
Location
Nea Erythrea, Attica, Greece.
Inscription: Asia Minor 1922: Memorial for our Deceased Ancestors (Μικρασία 1922: Των Θανόντων Προγόνων Μέμνησο).
Many refugees from different towns and villages of Asia Minor settled at Nea Erythraea, Greece after the genocide. These placenames are engraved on the base of the monument. Most of the refugees came from Erythraea in Asia Minor and therefore the place where they settled in Greece was named Nea Erythraea (ie. New Erythraea). Erythraea was the name of a peninsula and also an ancient city west of Smyrna.
